Understanding Depression: A Complete Guide to its Diagnosis and Treatment

Understanding Depression: A Complete Guide to its Diagnosis and Treatment, by Donald E. Klein and Paul Wender, explains the causes, course, and symptoms of clinical depressive disorders from a medical perspective. By reading the book, you will be able to determine if further assessment of your depression by a psychologist or psychiatrist is indicated.

Different types of treatment are discussed. Information is provided concerning medications and other medical interventions, such as electroconvulsive therapy.

Psychotherapy is also discussed, but the book is heavily baised toward a medical model. In my opinion, this limits its usefulness.

Nevertheless, if you are seeking information concerning the biochemical, medical aspects of depression and its treatment, you can't go wrong with Understanding Depression: A Complete Guide to its Diagnosis and Treatment.
